Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does the treatment leave any scarring on the eye lids?
A: The Soft Surgery System™ uses plasma energy to sublimate (evaporate) targeted surface tissue without cutting the skin. Unlike traditional blepharoplasty surgery, which involves incisions and sutures, this method creates controlled micro-injuries that stimulate the body’s natural healing process and collagen production. The treatment is performed using Plexr Plus, a Health Canada–approved medical device, and is administered under the supervision of a licensed physician to ensure safety and precision.
In medical terms, the procedure affects only the epidermal and superficial dermal layers, minimizing risk to deeper structures. The healing process typically involves the formation of small carbon crusts (like tiny scabs), which fall off naturally within 5 to 7 days.
In layman’s terms: No, the treatment does not leave scarring when performed correctly. You may see some small dots or scabs during healing, but these are temporary. Once they fall away, the new skin underneath continues to improve in texture and tightness over the following weeks. Under a doctor’s supervision, the risk of scarring is extremely low, especially when aftercare instructions are followed properly.
Q: What is the ballpark price, or the average price of the treatment?
A: We always recommend starting with a consultation with our physician, Dr. Nat, to assess your individual needs and goals. Pricing can vary depending on the treatment area, the extent of tissue laxity or skin damage, and how many sessions may be required.
Below are some general ballpark ranges for single treatment areas using the Soft Surgery System™ which also includes our full system of before care and after care:
- Upper Eyelids: $1,000 approximately
- Lower Eyelids: $1,000 approximately
- Upper and Lower (one session): $1,750 approximately
- Around the Mouth (smoker lines/fine wrinkles): $1,500 approximately
- Skin Tag Removal (minor, non-complicated): $250 and up, approximately (for 5 locations)
Each treatment is performed using Plexr Plus, a Health Canada–approved device, and is conducted under the supervision of Dr. Nat to ensure your safety and optimal results.
In simple terms: Most clients find the pricing to be more affordable than surgical alternatives, especially since there’s no cutting, sutures, or hospital recovery. However, since everyone’s skin is different, we’ll go over everything in detail during your consult — including the number of sessions and your expected outcome.
Financing available: We’ve partnered with Beautifi to offer flexible financing options for qualified clients. You can explore monthly payment plans through our page here: https://binbrookmedicalaesthetics.com/beautifi/
Q. How long will results last?
A: We recommend starting with a consultation with Dr. Nat to determine if the Soft Surgery System™ is the right approach for your specific concerns and to set realistic expectations for your results.
The results of the Soft Surgery System™ are considered long-lasting and often permanent in the area treated, because the procedure stimulates collagen remodeling and tissue contraction. The treated skin becomes tighter and more structured due to the controlled sublimation (evaporation) of superficial layers and the regenerative healing that follows.
However, it’s important to understand that while the results in the treated area are not expected to reverse, your skin will continue to age naturally. That means new laxity, fine lines, or volume changes may develop over time in nearby or untreated areas due to gravity, sun exposure, and aging-related collagen loss.
In plain terms: Think of the results as a reset in the area treated. You’ll look fresher and tighter in that zone — and that improvement is typically maintained for years. But since none of us can stop time, the aging process will continue elsewhere. Some clients choose periodic maintenance treatments in the future to stay ahead of new signs of aging.
Q: Will I need a second session or maintenance treatments?
A: While many clients see excellent results from just one treatment with the Soft Surgery System™, a second session may be recommended depending on the severity of skin laxity, depth of wrinkles, or the body’s individual healing response. This is especially true for more advanced signs of aging or if you want to treat multiple areas gradually.
We always start with a consultation with Dr. Nat, who will evaluate your skin, discuss your goals, and recommend the number of sessions most likely to achieve optimal, natural-looking results.
In medical terms, fibroblast stimulation and tissue contraction occur after each treatment, but individual factors such as collagen density, age, and skin thickness may influence how much tightening is achieved per session.
In simple terms: Most clients are happy after one session, but some come back for a touch-up or second round — either to refine results or to treat a larger area in stages. For ongoing skin aging, a light maintenance session every 12–24 months may be ideal for some clients, especially around the eyes or mouth where signs of aging tend to return sooner.
Q: How long does a Soft Surgery System™ session take?
A: After a thorough consultation with Dr. Nat, we’ll book your treatment appointment based on the area being addressed and the treatment plan we create together.
Most sessions follow this general timeline:
-
Numbing Cream Application: ~1 hour to allow for full anesthetic effect
-
Treatment Time: ~1 hour for most standard areas (such as upper or lower eyelids, or around the mouth)
Some smaller procedures, such as skin tag removal, may take less time, while larger or multiple-area sessions could require a bit longer. We’ll give you a more accurate estimate tailored to your treatment area and goals during your consultation.
In plain terms: You’ll want to set aside about 2 hours for your appointment — one hour for numbing, and one hour for the actual procedure. The process is designed to be comfortable, thorough, and precise.
Q: How soon will I see results after the treatment?
In medical terms, the Soft Surgery System™ works by triggering controlled dermal remodeling. This process includes fibroblast activation and collagen synthesis in the deeper layers of the skin — changes that take time to fully develop.
In simple terms: You’ll see early improvements after the scabs fall off, but your skin will keep improving for several weeks as it rebuilds from within. Clients often say their results look better at the 1-month mark than they did right after healing — and even better by 2 to 3 months.
Keep in mind that final results also depend on factors like age, skin quality, the treatment area, and how well you follow aftercare instructions. Dr. Nat will discuss what you personally can expect during your consultation.
Q: What is the downtime after a Soft Surgery System™ treatment?
A: The typical downtime is 5 to 7 days, though some mild redness or residual pinkness in the treated area can last a little longer, especially on sensitive skin. Most clients are able to return to non-public activities right away, but may choose to avoid social events during the visible healing phase.
Immediately after treatment, you’ll notice:
-
Small carbon crusts (tiny brown dots or scabs) in the treated area
-
Mild to moderate swelling, especially around the eyes (usually peaks at 48 hours and resolves within 2–3 days)
-
Redness and tightness as the skin begins to heal
These crusts will naturally fall off within a week — do not pick at them, as this can interfere with healing and increase the risk of pigment changes or scarring.
In medical terms, this is part of the controlled wound-healing process triggered by plasma-induced sublimation of superficial epidermal tissue. The crusting and inflammation are signs of normal inflammatory repair and collagen remodeling.
In simple terms: Expect a few days of looking like you’ve had a treatment — you’ll have tiny scabs and possibly puffy skin. Most people take 5–7 days before they feel comfortable being back in public, though light makeup may be used once the scabs have cleared and the skin is intact. Full healing (when the pink fades) can take a few weeks.
Dr. Nat will walk you through exactly what to expect and provide aftercare to support faster, smoother recovery.
Q: Can I wear makeup after the treatment?
A: Makeup should be avoided until the skin has fully re-epithelialized — meaning all carbon crusts have fallen off naturally and the surface skin has closed and healed. This typically takes 5 to 7 days. Applying makeup too soon can disrupt the healing process and increase the risk of infection, delayed recovery, or post-inflammatory pigmentation.
Once the crusts are gone and the skin is intact (even if it’s still slightly pink), mineral makeup or gentle, non-comedogenic products may be used to cover residual redness. However, we recommend keeping the area as clean and makeup-free as possible in the early days to support optimal healing.
To make your recovery easy and safe, we provide a complete before-and-after care system, including:
-
Cleansing instructions
-
Soothing post-treatment products
-
A timeline for when makeup and skincare products can be safely resumed
In simple terms: You’ll need to go makeup-free for about a week — and we’ll tell you exactly when it’s safe to start again. We’ll send you home with everything you need and clear instructions so you don’t have to guess.
Q: Is it safe to treat the eyelids so close to the eyes?
A: Yes — when performed with proper technique and under physician supervision, treatment of the eyelids using the Soft Surgery System™ is considered safe and effective. At our clinic, all treatments are done using Plexr Plus, a Health Canada–approved device, and administered by or under the direction of Dr. Nat to ensure medical oversight and patient safety.
Medically speaking, the plasma arc used in the Soft Surgery System™ does not physically touch the skin — instead, it creates a precise micro-injury by ionizing the air between the device tip and the skin surface. This allows for controlled sublimation of the outermost skin layer (epidermis) without cutting or bleeding. Because the energy is superficial and does not penetrate deeply, it can be used around the eyes without affecting the underlying muscles, eye globe, or vision structures.
In layman’s terms: Yes, it’s safe when done by a trained medical professional. The treatment never touches your actual eye — it only treats the loose skin on your upper or lower eyelids, using tiny pulses of energy to gently tighten the area. You’ll wear protective eye shields if necessary, and Dr. Nat will ensure everything is done with precision and care.
Q: How does this compare to eyelid surgery?
A: The Soft Surgery System™ offers a non-surgical alternative to traditional eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) for people with mild to moderate skin laxity around the eyes. While it doesn’t replace surgical results in severe cases, it provides a safe, effective option for clients looking to tighten eyelid skin without incisions, stitches, or general anesthesia.
Medically speaking, traditional blepharoplasty involves cutting and removing excess skin, muscle, and sometimes fat from the eyelids. It’s done in an operating room, requires sedation or anesthesia, and includes sutures and a longer recovery period (often 2–3 weeks of visible downtime).
The Soft Surgery System™, on the other hand, uses plasma energy to sublimate the upper layers of skin, triggering collagen remodeling and natural skin contraction. It is performed in-office, under topical anesthetic, with minimal downtime, no cutting, and a much lower risk of complications.
In simple terms:
-
Surgical blepharoplasty gives dramatic results but comes with more risk, more downtime, and higher cost.
-
The Soft Surgery System™ offers a gentler, non-invasive approach that works well for people who want visible improvement without going under the knife.
While surgery removes skin, soft surgery tightens what you have — it’s ideal for earlier intervention or for those not ready (or not a candidate) for surgery.
Dr. Nat will let you know during your consultation which approach is best based on your anatomy, goals, and overall skin condition.
Q: How is the Soft Surgery System™ different from plasma pens sold online or used in salons?
A: There is a significant difference between the Soft Surgery System™, which uses the Plexr Plus device, and the low-cost plasma pens often sold online or used in non-medical settings like salons or spas.
Medically speaking, the Soft Surgery System™ is performed using Plexr Plus, a Health Canada–approved medical-grade device. It delivers plasma energy in a precisely controlled and consistent way, allowing for safe, uniform treatment of delicate areas like the eyelids, under strict physician supervision. Plexr Plus uses a patented ionization method to create plasma without causing excess heat or trauma to surrounding tissue, reducing the risk of scarring, pigment changes, or unpredictable results.
In contrast, many plasma pens sold online or used in non-medical settings:
-
Are not regulated or approved by Health Canada
-
Often produce inconsistent plasma arcs with variable energy output
-
Are frequently used by individuals without proper medical training or anatomical knowledge
-
May be applied in ways that penetrate too deeply, increasing the risk of burns, scarring, or permanent skin damage
In simple terms:
The Soft Surgery System™ is a safe, medical-grade procedure performed by trained professionals using advanced technology. Most salon-grade plasma pens are lower quality and not safe for sensitive areas like the eyelids — especially when used without medical oversight. What seems cheaper upfront can cost much more in the long run if complications occur.
Your eyes and face deserve expert care. That’s why all treatments at Binbrook Medical Aesthetics are performed by or under the supervision of Dr. Nat, ensuring both safety and results.
Q: Is it painful? What does it feel like during the procedure?
A: Most clients find the Soft Surgery System™ treatment very tolerable, with minimal discomfort during the procedure. Prior to treatment, a topical anesthetic cream is applied for about 60 minutes, which significantly numbs the skin and reduces sensitivity in the area being treated.
Medically speaking, the plasma arc created by the Plexr Plus device causes superficial tissue sublimation — meaning the top layer of skin evaporates without direct contact. The sensation can be described as a brief pinpoint heat or prickling feeling at each treatment spot. Because the energy is so localized, surrounding tissues remain unaffected, and no deep pain is felt.
In simple terms:
It doesn’t hurt the way surgery or injections might. Most people say it feels like a series of quick zaps or tiny sparks on the skin. Some areas — especially near the eyes — can feel more sensitive, but the numbing cream works very well, and we check in with you constantly to ensure you’re comfortable.
After the procedure, the treated area may feel warm or tight, similar to a mild sunburn, for a few hours. This is normal and typically fades by the next day.
We take every step to make your treatment as easy and comfortable as possible, and Dr. Nat will be with you throughout to monitor how you’re feeling.
Q: What is the difference between this and microneedling?
A: The difference from microneedling:
Microneedling is a great treatment for overall skin texture and glow — but in deeper, more resistant areas like vertical lip lines, it often takes multiple sessions over time to build enough collagen for visible change.
Our Soft Surgery System™ (powered by Plexr Plus) works quite differently. It uses plasma energy to contract the surface skin and stimulate collagen in a much more targeted and immediate way. You can typically expect visible improvement after just one treatment, especially in etched lines that microneedling may not have fully reached.
Q: Does the pigment of your skin change as with lasers?
A: Your concern with lasers leaving that stark white effect or permanent pigment loss — is something we hear about often, especially with deeper ablative lasers like CO2.
The good news is that our Soft Surgery System™, using the Plexr Plus device, works very differently. It targets only the superficial top layers of the skin, using plasma energy that gently contracts and stimulates new collagen without going deep enough to affect melanocytes (the cells responsible for pigment).
In other words, it doesn’t go deep enough to trigger long-term pigment loss. That’s one of the reasons we love using it for areas like smoker’s lines and the delicate skin around the mouth — it allows us to improve texture and fine lines without the common risks of scarring or pigment change.
As always, we also do a full skin assessment before treatment, so we can customize your plan and take every precaution based on your unique skin tone and healing pattern.
